Immigrants Have Always Made America Great
At LanguageTran, we celebrate immigrants and the culture and heritage they bring to America. With Columbus Day coming in less than a week, we thought it time to remind our readers that immigrants have been arriving for hundreds of years.
The culture and language that immigrants bring adds to the story and helps create a diverse and healthy economy. An economy we all benefit from.
Immigrants Add to Our Economy
From AmericanProgress.org, we’d like to share these statistics with you. The thing is, people who come from another country to make the United States their home add to our culture and heritage. We are a melting pot, and have been for around 500 years.
- $1.5 trillion— American Progress states that this is the amount of money that would be added to our economy if we reformed immigration laws and allowed immigrants here now full amnesty. (We hope we paraphrased this correctly – please feel free to comment if we’ve missed something.)
- $11.2 billion— Taxes paid by immigrants in 2010. This is the amount our immigrant, foreign-born population paid in taxes – not what they earned.
- $4.5 billion to $5.4 billion— More taxes – If those immigrants who are currently living here illegally were allowed to live here legally and pay taxes, this is the amount of tax revenue we would see from them.

We get to know them, and have long lasting relationships with them. And, thought is might be a bit of a cliche, the truth is that we are all immigrants to this country. Some just landed a bit more recently than others.
